The New Aman in New York Has Set Its Sights High

The Ultra Luxury Retreat Is Set To Open Later This Year

New York’s hotel landscape is about to be forever changed as the Aman group of hotels is slated to open their first New York property this fall. With this location, the Aman will bring their 6-star perspective on rejuvenation and refinement to the city that never sleeps.

The building has anchored itself to one of the most iconic corners in the world, 57th street and 5th avenue, known the world over as the veritable intersection of all that is luxury and style in New York. It’s the corner where famed street style and society photographer for the New York Times, Bill Cunnigham, held court to take pictures of New York’s most stylish women. It’s also where Audrey Hepburn had her coffee and danish at the start of Breakfast at Tiffany’s as she peered into the windows of the store that is still on that corner.

Although it will sit at this famed New York City nexus, it will still be the Aman, a hotel chain whose core philosophy is to create a sanctuary and space that goes above and beyond standard ideas of luxury. They commissioned Jean-Michel Gathy to design the property who was tasked with creating this elevated concept while still honoring the history and architecture within which it lives.

The Crown Building, into which the Aman is being built, was the former home of the Museum of Modern Art and it is one of the most expensive retail and office space locations in the United States. When it was purchased in 2015 by the current owners for $1.8 billion, it was one of the largest real estate purchases in the history of New York City.

The hotel is exclusive—it’s slated to have a mere 83 rooms. It will also host Aman's first urban residences via 22 homes which will be part of this property. There will be restaurants and a Garden Terrace and Bar which will encompass 7000 square feet of outdoor dining space. In addition, there will be a private members club called the Aman Club, a Jazz Club and Wine Room.

The highlight of the property is the nearly 25,000 square feet of spa and amenities spread over three storeys. Open to guests, residents and Aman Club members, the centerpiece of the space is the 65 foot indoor swimming pool which they have surrounded with daybeds and fire pits. Within this space are two further Spa Houses with a plethora of treatment rooms, sauna and steam rooms, outdoor terraces with cabanas, and more daybeds and fireplaces.

With this philosophy of creating an exclusive urban sanctuary, it will radically change the perspective on how New York does hospitality, and we couldn’t be happier.
